Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between theoretical probability and empirical probability using simulations of simple experiments programmed in Microsoft Excel. A physics laboratory’s probability experiments of tossing coins and dice for multiple trials:10-100000. The convergence of the experimental probability to the theoretical probability was observed as the number of trials increased. Thus, at the UG level, MS Excel spreadsheet can be used as a teaching-learning tool for statistical principles. The Excel spreadsheet provides the same results in a shorter time than the conventional method used in physics laboratories. It was concluded that MS Excel saved considerable effort and time for conducting probability experiments in statistical physics.
